Michele Burke is the winner of two Academy Awards for make-up and she was nominated for another four as well as two BAFTA wins. Born in Kildare, Ireland, she began her career doing make-up for fashion and horror films in Canada. Beyond two introductory make-up courses and interning she essentially “learned on the job”. Laura Tyler is a Special Effects Make-up artist and specializes in Prosthetic, Character, Movie, Airbrush, and Television make-up. Laura was born in Orlando Florida and has always carried a passion for the arts at an early age. Enamored by film making, she decided on a career path that allowed her to pursue a passion in the Special Effects Make-Up industry, and has had no regrets. Ever since she made her choice Laura has done nothing but apply herself to mastering her craft. In 2013 she was winner of Face Off: Season 5, Los Angeles, CA. Neill Gorton entered the film industry aged just 17. Before he was 20 he had worked in Hollywood and supervised the FX for a movie and for feature film credits. By the age of 26 he had his own successful company and was heading a department for Steven Spielberg on Saving Private Ryan. He has worked with famous directors and on actors such as Johnny Depp, Michael Caine, Christopher Lee, Julianne Moore and Anne Hathaway. In a professional career spanning 25 years he has contributed prosthetics and FX to over fifty feature films and literally hundreds of other productions. His awards include four BAFTA and seven RTS Awards. He is on the steering committee for the National Film and Television School and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Arts University College Bournemouth. 2012 World Champion at the International Body Painting Festival in Asia, Hyewon is a passionate, dedicated and multi-talented artist with over 12 years’ experience in make-up, body painting, wig-design and special effects for TV, theatre, film, photography and fashion. After earning a BA in Costume, Technical Effects and Make-up for the Performing Arts at the London College of Fashion, Hyewon was awarded finalist place in the 2007 BBC Vision Design Competition for Make-up. Relocating permanently to London, she has worked on principal artists, choruses and actors in over 80 stage productions. Michael Loncin is a graduate technician passionate about robotics and special effects makeup. He quitted his job around ten years ago to devote himself to his passion forging his skills on the field from short films sets to movie sets. He also had the chance to be involved as makeup supervisor in a variety of events such as the 50th Wedding Anniversary of King Albert II and Queen Paola or to be chosen to create a Vampire mask for the well known emblematic sculpture, Manneken Pis.
After years of teaching special effects makeup for two renowned makeup schools in Brussels and willing to give a deeper knowledge of that specific branch to the students, he has today opened his own training center, the first one in Belgium dedicated to special effects.
After training as a theatrical make-up artist at the Cologne theatre Bernd Staatz worked as head make-up artist in Bonn, Nice and Hamburg. Since 1986 he has managed an atelier for masks and wigs for the theatre, movies and television. Since 2005 he has headed the team of make-up artists at the “Deutsche Oper am Rhein” in Düsseldorf. For five years he was part of the team for experimental forensics in Bonn as a specialist for face/head reconstruction. Bernd Staatz also used his expertise to support the development of 3D-scanning systems for digital modelling for mould making.
Tiiu Luht has been a professional make-up artist for over 25 years. She is currently a principal make-up artist with the Den Norske Opera and Ballet in Oslo, Norway. Previously, Tiiu served for 10 years as make-up department head at the Estonia National Opera. She taught make-up artistry at several schools, including her own in Estonia. Her credits include make-up and hair design for over 100 different operas, ballets and musicals throughout Europe.

After his graduation he worked for various theater and television projects whilst extending his expertise and knowledge in Special Make-up Effects. In 2005 he founded a company with Tamar Aviv in Berlin. Together they realized a variety of productions, from music videos and theater productions to national and international movie and TV films. Paul Merchant is a London based make-up artist, he has worked in all disciplines of the make-up industry, from theatre to fashion, body painting to cosmetic camouflage. As a self taught artist, he has developed his own style of working. “I love to play around with products and find different and interesting ways of using them, other than their intended purpose. Using SFX or theatrical products in fashion and beauty, gives my designs a fresh appeal and I think a more intriguing design.” Paul has taught in countless Schools and Colleges across the U.K and has completed tours of India and Taiwan focusing on High Definition make-up in Bollywood and editorial fashion. Some of his most recent work includes London Fashion Week, Britain & Irelands Next Top Model Live, various editorial campaigns, tutorial videos and shows with designers. His work has been featured in magazines such as Face On, Cosmopolitan and Italian Vogue.

While studying professional make-up at Stamford College, Lincolnshire, in the east of England, Victoria Lee began to develop a passion in the area of camouflage make-up. While she has trained in theatre, film, T.V, fashion & photographic make-up it is this specialist genre of cosmetic camouflage where she finds herself excelling. She has taken many international trips to teach this useful and rewarding discipline, earning herself a very respectable name in the skin camouflage network. Her most recent work includes working on the team for Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model Live and American's Next Top Model Live in Canada. Victoria has worked for 18 years now in London and during that time has demonstrated at countless shows and travelled extensively for presentations.
Being passionate about special-effects make-up Dennis Penkov laid the foundation stone for his career. He completed training as a theatre make-up artist at Berlin’s Theater des Westens and worked for several years at the Babelsberg film studios. 2003 saw him establish his academy where he has since then passed on his longstanding professional experience in workshops and at coaching sessions at theatres and during film projects. Gemma Horner is a London based freelance make-up artist, she has worked in all disciplines of the make-up industry, from theatre to fashion, body painting to camouflage. She taught in countless schools and colleges across the UK including London College of Fashion. She worked on productions as Coldplay's Charlie Brown Music Video, Princess Diana Concert and most recently some of the X Factor television series including the live final. Gemma has travelled the world extensively working on America's Next Top Model Live (Canada), several fashion shows (Berlin), tutorial videos and on shows with famous designers like Vivienne Westwood. Birgit Mörtl loves to “metamorphose” people, to paint, experiment and to fascinate. She has a passion for body painting, in particular with special effects and fashion design.
Skilful and artistic craftsmanship is her gift and art & design is her mission. After completing her fashion and apparel engineering studies Birgit Mörtl specialised in stage costumes and obtained her Master’s Diploma. Her client list for theatre costumes, promotion outfits, body painting, set design and movie as well as event and trade fair decoration reads like the “who’s who” of the event management and production scene. She is also known for her work for Life Ball, a top charity event held annually.
Darren Jinks has served as Wig Master at the Los Angeles Opera since 2006, and has worked as a makeup artist, wigmaker and hairstylist for over 21 years in opera, theatre and film. He is the recipient of the Guild Award (I.A.T.S.E. Local 706) for Best Makeup for a Theatrical Production for the Magic Flute (2014) and The Lion King (2002). Darren’s previous credits include Broadway touring productions of The Phantom of the Opera, Titanic and Disney’s The Lion King.
After having been trained to be a hairdresser, Hans-Jürgen Kückelheim was educated at the Städtischen Bühnen (City Theatre) Freiburg/Breisgau to become a make-up artist at the end of the 1980s. Engagements followed at the touring theatre of the Konzertdirektion Landgraf, the city theatre of St. Gallen in Switzerland and the Bonn Opera House. Recently, Hans-Jürgen Kückelheim has worked as the deputy head make-up artist at the Hamburg State Opera. His passion is hairstyles and even colleagues admired his dexterity, for example, in the plaiting of opulent braids.
