10 and 11 March 2018 will see “curtains up” for what is now the ninth make-up artist design show (mads) held at the Düsseldorf exhibition centre. International stage and beauty make-up artists from theatre, opera houses, playhouses, TV studios, musicals and film productions will meet here at the sectoral hotspot. In Düsseldorf over 4,000 trade visitors can look forward to an exclusive atmosphere and in-depth exchange because the professionals will be among themselves thanks to strict trade visitor only registration. “It is this professional and communicative atmosphere that creates the ideal prerequisite for networking among colleagues and making new contacts that the participants appreciate so highly,” says Michael Degen, Executive Director at Messe Düsseldorf.
High-Calibre Expert Programme
What is so special about mads is this inimitable mix of information, continuous education and artistic inspiration. The stars in this industry are presented hands-on and allow the audience at the lecture forum to share in their works for movies, TV and theatre. Well-known stage make-up artists will demonstrate their skills on stage providing valuable tips for everyday work with their practical demonstrations. Over the past few years guests included the Oscar winners Mark Coulier, Michael Westmore and Michele Burke, to name but a few, who made for that special celebrity feel.
At the Creative Workshop new techniques are shown in detail and with a focus on practitioners. Professionals are not afraid to allow visitors to look over their shoulder and even encourage them to try out new materials and techniques.
“In Düsseldorf we find the most important stage make-up artists from Germany and Europe represented. mads has developed into a communicative meeting point. The mixture of exclusive products and continuous education plus hands-on demonstrations by top stars is unique,” adds Degen.
Exclusive Atmosphere
At the stands of the 75 exhibitors and brands visitors find everything needed for professional beauty make-up, special effects, plastic moulding of faces and bodies as well as materials for making masks, wigs and hairpieces. The ranges are rounded off by special tools, equipment and accessories.
In previous years both exhibitors and visitors praised not only the professional side events but also the high quality standards. “The image of this event is extremely good. The sector highly praises mads and enjoys the family-like setting just as much as the excellent networking conditions,” says Wolfram Langer, CEO of the Berlin-based company KRYOLAN and co-initiator of the trade fair.
Recognition and Talent Scouting
For the seventh time now talented trainees will get together in Düsseldorf. This year the contestants for the German Championship for Make-Up Artists under Training are tasked with creating a high-impact “Monster” mask.
With the “Golden Mask” one national and one international personality is honoured at mads. The award recognises sector representatives for their special commitment, artistically important masks or extraordinary life-time achievements.
Service a Top Priority
mads Düsseldorf offers its visitors a comprehensive service. Free-of-charge, visitors can use the on-site crèche, (for children aged 4 and above), the cloakroom and left luggage facilities as well as public transport within the local VRR network (with a valid admission ticket, in the greater Düsseldorf area). mads will be held on 10 and 11 March in Hall 7 of Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre 2017, opening each day from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm. Trade visitor registration ensures that only professional make-up artists are granted admission to the fair.
