With its colourful and creative programme, the tenth edition of the make-up artist design show (mads) in Düsseldorf is a must-go event for make-up artists from theatres, opera and play houses, TV studios, musicals and film production. On 30 and 31 March the professionals will meet at the only trade fair of its kind in Germany. 2019 will again see mads bring the big names from the world of make-up artistry as well as creative representatives of this profession from the fashion and beauty community to Düsseldorf offering a versatile and inspiring expert programme.
Top Stars from the Sector at the Lecture Forum
At the Lecture Forum the stars in the sector will present their work for film, TV and theatre and share tips for professional work.
Amazing Jiro from Japan will demonstrate the noble art of face painting with “creature make-up”. With his take on face painting, special effects and art he has gained international recognition. Mimi Choi from Canada is known for her inimitable style and will produce a surreal illusion make-up. Her creativity is rooted in her vivid imagination. She draws on nature and art as sources of inspiration. Matt Valentine from the USA specialises in special effects; he loves to work subconscious, abstract or esoteric symbols into his designs. He is known for the legendary Ice Cream Clown in Face Off. At mads he will present his interpretation of Maria in Metropolis.
Bernhard Floch from Belgium will show how to create character make-up with a bald head and wig. Born in France he has been in the business for over 30 years now working at theatres and opera houses all over the world. Guido Paefgen and his team will reproduce an opera character from Staatstheater Mainz on stage. Elke Kim from Cologne, who works as a painter and make-up artist internationally, will share how presenters are made up for the GreenBox. Performance artist Alisson Rodrigues from Brazil will produce the perfect facial glow. And Danny Defreitas from the UK will also present one of his make-up designs that make him so highly sought after by celebrities.
Get Active at the Creative Workshop
One of the main reasons for visiting mads is getting to know new technologies and materials. At the Creative Workshop visitors will therefore have an opportunity to try out materials and techniques themselves instructed by professionals.
This year the workshops will be hosted by Mimi Choi from Canada, Bernard Floch and Michael Loncin from Belgium, Annette von Hugo and Friedrich-Daniel Schlemme from Berlin as well as Ina Chochol from Düsseldorf. They will cover illusion make-up, face painting, special effects, hand-laid water perms, master’s degrees in mask making and applying and making up skinheads.
Ice Age at the German Championships for Make-Up Artists in Training
The German Championships for Make-up Artists in Training is one of the top highlights at mads. This year, the talented trainees will be asked to create effective make-up on the “Ice Age” theme. The eight finalists will be able to let their imagination run free to bring primeval mammoths, fairy-tale snow queens or mysterious ice creatures to life.
