Colourful and Varied Specialist Programme at the make-up artist design show

Once again in 2012 the make-up design show will be bringing big names from the make-up artist scene to Düsseldorf and offering a varied and inspiring specialist programme

Body Art, Fashion Make-up and that Certain Something
Forming the focus at the make-up artist design show will be the Lecture Forum where stars from the sector will be demonstrating their work for film, television and theatre and giving professional tips. This year there will be great cinema with attendant special effects thanks to Stuart Bray. Londoner Bray is a real genius when it comes to special effects for horror, fantasy, science fiction and adventure films and he has worked as make-up artist on films like “Gladiator“, “The Mummy 1 and 2”, “Blade 2” or “Shaun of the Dead”. However, he also honours the fine art of special effects in his character and face mask creations for other film genres.

The topics at the Lecture Forum convey a wide spectrum of the work of make-up artists and range from fashion make-up and digital make-up artistry through to forensics: as a rule, the most spectacular make-up trends are first seen on the catwalk. New Yorker Kevin James Bennett is an absolute star in the sector and shows how to transpose trends from the catwalk into everyday life providing professional guidance on discerning and trendy make-up. Dr Benno Hartung takes his audience on an exciting journey through the anatomy of cuts, burns and decomposition. In “Faces of Death” the Düsseldorf physician impressively presents expert knowledge from the field of forensic medicine. From Russia Natalia Pavlova conjures up art using the template of a famous Picasso painting on the human body and uses her unique artistic style to create an exciting new picture. Lan Nguyen is a fashion make-up expert in demand throughout the world. On stage this Brit with Vietnamese roots presents extravagant design for the catwalk and artistic staging for photo shoots.

The mask exhibition entitled “In Masks the Times Proceed” showcases the impressive work of make-up artist Wolfgang Utzt. His masks, figures, graphics and designs have written German theatre history both east and west.

Join in at the Creative Workshop
Getting to know new techniques and materials is a key reason why people come to the make-up artist design show. The Creative Workshop therefore gives visitors the opportunity to try out devices and techniques for themselves under professional guidance. Daily from 10 am to 12 noon visitors can try their hand at special effects, from 12 noon to 2 pm Jos Brands and Natalia Pavlova will be presenting the fine art of body painting and from 2 pm to 4 pm Düsseldorf local Alexander Schier will be presenting practical techniques for hair thickening and lengthening and beard making.

The stands of well-known companies offer visitors to the make-up artist design show everything they need for professional make-up, hairstyling, special effects, prosthetics for face and body design as well as producing masks and hair pieces.

German Championships for Make-Up Artists in Training
The German Championships for Make-Up Artists in Training will be held at the make-up artist design show for the second time now. The ten championship participants will have 90 minutes to create an unusual and imaginative figure themed around “Underwater Worlds”. During this time an international expert jury will assess their work according to fixed assessment criteria.

Award of the Golden Mask for Make-Up Artists
At the trade fair on Saturday, 10 March the Berlin company KRYOLAN will be presenting the Golden Mask Award for Make-Up Artists. For his commitment and life’s work Heinz Schary will be presented the National Golden Mask Award. For almost 40 years he worked for Stuttgart State Theatre, most of this time as Chief Make-Up Artist for the playhouse. Moscow resident Natalia Pavlova will be presented the International Golden Mask Award. With her creativity, exceptional ideas and loving attention to detail she presents make-up in a totally new and artistic way.

One Weekend, Three Trade Fairs
Running parallel with the make-up artist design show in 2012 will be the two leading service trade fairs for the cosmetics and hairdressing sectors: BEAUTY INTERNATIONAL, the leading trade fair for cosmetic professionals, and TOP HAIR International Trend & Fashion Days, the top event in the hairdressing world.
The make-up artist design show will be held from 9 am to 6 pm in Hall 13 of the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre on 10 and 11 March 2012. Trade visitor registration ensures only professional make-up artists gain access to the event. One-day tickets cost € 30 while two-day tickets cost € 45.
